04.07.06Hey All!
SPC Surefire reportin in, it’s been a while I know. Things have been busy…sorta.
Well, as everyone knows my laptop took a spill and is now gathering dust. I plan on gettin it fixed when I fly home for leave. Until then, I just have to use these internet cafe’s. Whatever.
Anyway, we’ve had a few commo blackouts in the past month, so I haven’t had too much opportunity to get on here. But things have been goin ok for me. Still rather boring….but the tensions are rising. Think of the “bad guys” as being a hibernating kind of animal….or a tourist rather. They only like to come out when the weather suits them. So now that it’s summer(sorta) and the rain is gone(for the most part), the “bad guys” are back in action. Now they are gettin down to business and hookin us up with a more “active lifestyle”. Read: More booms.
I’m still kickin it up in the gun and enjoying all the “extra” body armor I get to wear. I feel so snug…like I’m getting an all day hug. It’s all good. I know I’m that much safer….riiiiight.
OH HEY! Here’s some cool news for everyone. I finally got to shoot a series of weapons for the first time in my life. The weapons are as follows: Glock 17(9mm), AK-47(7.62mm), and the PKC Machine Gun(7.62mm). The reason we got to fire these weapons was a testing range for the Iraqi Police armor. We put up two ceramic plates, two steel plates…and a humvee door armor panel(aluminum…ooOOOOoooo). You can guess which panels passed the test.
I aint been blown up yet(thank you God) and I aint been shot at(directly), so I’m still relatively safe over here. All yer prayers are workin. Tanx a bunch!
Anyway…hope everyone’s doing great back in the states. OH, and thanks again to SK, and Stoicmom, and Kat in GA and all my other letter writers. You’re all angels.
God bless!

Hey SPC Surefire,
I’m a regular reader but don’t comment a lot. Just wanted to congratulate you on the promotion. Glad to hear you have been staying safe. Thanks for your service.

You don’t give up on those prayers at night or when you lay your head down. Never become complacent either! Head on a swivel and kill with over powering force when your life is threatened.
This my friend will allow you to come home to this land we appreciate and miss so much when we are outside the ‘wire’.

Sure Fire,
I can’t agree more with AS’s comments. Complaceny kills! Period! Don’t ever assume that just becasue you cleared that area yesterday that it hasn’t been infiltrated over night. Or the road that presented no hazard yesterday is always going to be clear. YOU MUST stay situationally aware at all times a 360 degree field of view is your goal, and don’t forget to look up too the battle field is in 3 dimensions.
Now having said that, great job so far and good luck with all you do. I’ve bene following you since your time in Korea and I have to admit…you have grown quite a bit since then. Stick it out and stay alert…God knows we need more lerts. *Smile*
Carry on and stay safe and Thank you for your service to our country!

I have absolutely no excuse for not checking recently. I am sorry. You know you are never far from my mind and certainly in my prayers. I directed my guardian angel over there long ago so you and your buddies have plenty company.
Like Dave M I’ve been following you since Korea and I’ve also notice a change, more mature. Guess being on your toes all the time will do that. Wear your helmet, and keep those eyes working.
God bless.

Hey Surefire,
In your spare time, which I’m sure you just have mounds of these days, why don’t you start working on a story for Michael Yon. He’s looking for stories from “boots on the ground”. Here’s the link:

Um….whoops…am I supposed to do something here? I keep forgetting…I hate this. No inter-web for me to frollick on..it’s like taking the cake away from the fat kid(wink wink). Anyway..I didn’t get much time today so I stopped in here.
Chad- No worries bro. I know what’s been weighin you down and I am in no rush.
Sarge- Big SAAAAAAARRGE!! Oh by the way…I’ve been doin what you told me to do…you know, like yer dead or somethin. My current driver has already asked me how long it’s going to take for that to be old. Of course, I told him ALL YEEAAAARRRRR!!!
Everyone else- I love you guys…but yer not gettin my Non-Alchoholic Bud Light…or in my case, my O’Douls…drat! This stuff is terrible. Well….things aren’t really boring anymore…we just work alot more. Now that we are starting the leave rotations, we have to turn up the juice when it comes to sharing the work load. Longer days in hotter weather. Bring it. I’m still waiting for the Army to incorperate that personal cooling system I keep reading about in the science fiction novels that SargeGiblet keeps mocking me for reading(they increase my vocabulary I swear.) So until then it’s just water and Gaaaatorraaaade(water sux).
Sorry I can’t be on here like I want to…apparently I wasn’t meant to be…or else my computer would not have fried like it did. God works in mysterious and sometimes painful ways.
“What don’t kill ya only makes ya stronger!”
Keep it rizzles my home bizzles! And keep them prayerizzles head my wizzles. Fo sho.
